Don't Be a Prisoner of Opinion

Let me start with a truth that will either liberate you or offend you. Possibly both.

Even if you die for people, they will still say you did not die well.

Read that again. Slowly. Let it sink in.

You can sacrifice everything. You can give your last cent. You can carry their burdens, wipe their tears, pay their bills, and show up for them at 3 AM when nobody else would. And when you are gone, when your body is in the ground and your name is being mentioned at the funeral, somebody will still be sitting in the back row whispering, "Mmm, but you know, he was not really that generous."

Somebody will still find something to say. Somebody will still find something to criticise. Somebody will still find a way to reduce your entire life to a single flaw.

And the crazy part? That is not a tragedy. That is just people. That is just the nature of the beast.

So, if you cut your neck for people, they will still say you did not cut it well. That one sweet me. That one really, really sweet me. ðŸĪĢ

The Funeral Committee Never SleepsðŸŠĶ

Let us talk about the funeral committee. You know the ones.

These are the people who show up after you are dead to discuss how you should have lived. They are the ones who gather around the fire, holding their plates of food that YOU paid for, and begin the autopsy of your character.

"He was good, but..."

"She was kind, but..."

"You know, he used to help people, but..."

That "but" is the killer. That "but" is the thing that erases everything you ever did. That "but" is the reason nobody remembers the good you did, only the flaw they decided to magnify.

And the funny thing is, the people doing the talking are usually the ones who never lifted a finger. They never contributed. They never sacrificed. They never showed up. They just observed. They just judged. They just talked.

Because talking is free. Talking costs nothing. Talking requires no courage, no sacrifice, no risk. Talking is the cheapest currency in the world, and unfortunately, it is the most widely used.

The Impossible Task of Pleasing EveryoneðŸŽŊ

Here is a mathematical impossibility that nobody wants to accept. You cannot please everyone. You cannot. It is not a matter of effort. It is not a matter of strategy. It is simply impossible.

If you are generous, they will say you are showing off.

If you are humble, they will say you are hiding something.

If you are bold, they will say you are arrogant.

If you are quiet, they will say you are proud.

If you help, they will say you are looking for attention.

If you do not help, they will say you are selfish.

If you succeed, they will say you changed.

If you fail, they will say you never had what it takes.

There is no version of you that satisfies everybody. There is no decision you can make that everybody will approve of. There is no path you can walk that nobody will criticise.

And once you accept that, you become free. Not bitter. Not cynical. Just free.

Because you stop running a race that has no finish line. You stop fighting a battle that cannot be won. You stop auditioning for a role that was never yours to play.

The 2 AM Committee in Your Head🧠

But here is the deeper problem. It is not just the external voices. It is the internal ones.

Some of us are not prisoners of other people's opinions because of what they say. We are prisoners because of what we imagine they might say. We replay conversations that never happened. We rehearse arguments that will never take place. We defend ourselves against accusations nobody made.

We sit in our rooms at 2 AM, conducting court cases in our heads, prosecuting and defending ourselves against a jury of people who are asleep and do not even remember our names.

That is the real prison. The one built inside your own mind. The one with walls made of "what if they think" and bars made of "what will they say."

And the saddest part? Most of those people are not thinking about you at all. They are thinking about themselves. They are thinking about their own struggles, their own failures, their own insecurities. You are not the main character in their story. You are barely a footnote.

So stop living as if the whole world is watching. Most of the world is looking in the mirror.

The Freedom of Being Misunderstood🕊️

There is a strange freedom that comes when you accept being misunderstood.

When you stop explaining yourself. When you stop defending your decisions. When you stop trying to make people see your heart when they have already decided what they want to see.

Jesus was misunderstood. He healed people and they accused him of using demonic power. He ate with sinners and they called him a glutton and a drunkard. He spoke truth and they called him a blasphemer. He came in love and they nailed him to a cross.

And even on that cross, hanging between heaven and earth, bleeding and dying for the sins of the world, they still found something to say. "He saved others, but he cannot save himself."

Even in death, they talked. Even in sacrifice, they criticised. Even in the ultimate act of love, they found a flaw.

So if the perfect Son of God could not escape the opinions of men, what makes you think you will?

You will not. So stop trying.

The People Who Actually Matter❤️

Now, let me be balanced. Not all opinions are worthless. Not all criticism is noise.

There is a small circle of people whose opinions should matter. And that circle is very, very small.

These are the people who love you without conditions. These are the people who tell you the truth even when it hurts. These are the people who correct you in private, not shame you in public. These are the people who have earned the right to speak into your life because they have walked with you through the fire.

These are your real people. Your two, your three, your five. The ones who cry with you, pray for you, and stand with you when everyone else walks away.

Their voices matter. Their correction matters. Their concern matters.

But the crowd? The crowd does not matter. The crowd does not love you. The crowd loves a spectacle. The crowd loves a story. The crowd loves to watch you rise so they can enjoy the fall. The crowd is not your friend. The crowd is an audience.

And you were not created to perform for an audience.

The Cost of Living for Applause 🎭

Let me tell you what happens when you live for the approval of others.

You become exhausted. You become anxious. You become someone you do not recognise. You start dressing for them. You start talking like them. You start hiding the parts of yourself that they might not approve of.

You become a chameleon, changing colours to match whatever room you walk into. And after a while, you forget what your original colour was. You forget who you are. You forget what you actually like, what you actually believe, what you actually want.

You have become a prisoner. A prisoner of opinion. A prisoner of applause. A prisoner of a crowd that will clap for you today and crucify you tomorrow.

The same crowd that shouted "Hosanna" on Sunday shouted "Crucify him" on Friday. Same crowd. Same voices. Different day.

Do not build your life on the applause of the crowd. They will change their tune before you finish singing your song.

The Decision Is Yours🧭

So here is the invitation. And it is a simple one, though it is not an easy one.

Choose peace. Not approval. Not applause. Not validation. Peace.

Make decisions that are right for you, even if they are not popular. Even if they are not understood. Even if they require you to walk alone for a season.

Move forward. Not in bitterness. Not in rebellion. Not in defiance. Just forward. Steady. Quiet. Confident.

Because your life is yours. You will not stand before God and give an account of what your neighbours thought. You will give an account of what you did with what you were given.

And when you stand there, the crowd will not be with you. The committee will not be with you. The people who had so much to say about your life will not be standing in your corner.

It will just be you and your Creator. And that is the only opinion that has ever mattered.

A courisity 🔓

If you are reading this and you feel trapped, hear me.

The door is open. It has always been open. You just have been standing in the doorway, waiting for permission to leave. Waiting for the crowd to say, "You may go now."

They will never say it. They will never give you permission. They will never release you. You have to release yourself.

So put down the file of complaints you have been carrying. Put down the list of everyone who talked. Put down the weight of being misunderstood.

Walk out. Breathe. Live.

Because you only get one life. And you cannot spend it performing for people who will still find something to say even after you are dead.
